Students who start upper secondary school next year have been invited.
Two third year students give information about the programme and is telling the younger students about their future plans.
Here I am preparing a screen full of information about Child care and recreation programme and about apprenticeship.
Hi Gunilla, can you explain the difference between apprentice education and school based education? In Western Australia we don't have apprenticeships in child care, only traineeships. This means that someone who is currently working in a service can undertake to do training, with the support of a training provider, in their own workplace. As much of the assessment as possible is linked to the workplace. If they are in a good service this works well.
Whew. I don´t know if I can explain this in my bad English. If you are an apprenticeship student, the school provides a mentor and an internship at a preschool. At school teh student have a mentor too. The two mentors are supposed to communicate about what the student can learn at school and what she can learn at the preschool. Two days a week, the sudent is at school, mostly to study general upper secondary subjects, as History, English and Swedish.Scool based education means ordinary studies at school, five days a week.
Is there a strong demand for childcare workers in Sweden? In Australia there is strong demand for childcare workers - partly because they are paid poorly, and there is a high attrition rate. There have been some policies in place more recently to attract more students. These strategies seem to have been quite suucessful.
In Sweden, 95 % of all five year olds go to preschool and we are allways in need of new staff. As for the nursery nurces, it´s hard to get permanent employment. They work as stand-ins for some years, and then they do something else. It´s better payed to work as a nursery nurce than to work in a shop.
Gunilla, does the school have upper secondary education as both apprentice education and as school-based education?
ReplyDeleteThe intention is to have both apprentice education and school-based education, but not enough students have applied.
